What is the EBF?

The European Brain Foundation (EBF) is an independent multidisciplinary and multi-stakeholder charity whose founding members represent leading European neurological, neurosurgical, and psychiatric clinical societies as well as neuroscience research societies and patient organisations. Its goal is to support research aiming at reducing the burden of brain disorders for European citizens. By coordinating all the partners concerned in this domain, the EBF will ensure the transparency and the sustainability of its actions. Donors will contribute to significantly reduce the impact of one of the biggest health challenges European society is currently facing.

What is our mission and goal?

The main mission of the European Brain Foundation (EBF) is to support research aimed at reducing the burden of brain disorders on society and to contribute to boosting the brain health of every European citizen.

Our goal is to raise funds for brain research and to allocate them to projects of importance corresponding to the EBF mission.

How will we complete this goal?

EBF will reinforce collaboration within the brain research community — facilitating and coordinating high level research — in order to unite disciplines and ensure diverse and valuable research expertise will work towards developing new knowledge as well as innovative and effective interventions. This way, the EBF will create an active interface for matchmaking between developers and potential donors. In order to ensure full transparency and meaningfulness, EBF will maintain clear communications with donors and public reporting on the use of funds.

What projects will the Foundation fund?

The activities of the Foundation will be based on collaboration between different stakeholders. The EBF will create awareness by releasing guidance on priorities and desirable outcomes in order to ensure that every project receiving funds will meet public health needs, as well as all scientific and ethical requirements. Proceeding from call to project(s) is the EBF’s priority. However, independent applications may also be considered if they correspond to research in a thematic field a donor wishes to support.
